If Messenger is open and BlackICE 2.9 or 3.0 is started, a new (small) window is openend. It has something to do, how Netscape/mozilla handles the windows messages... i detected the bug while i was programming on IDScenter (www.eclipse.fr.fm). As BlackICE was started, IDScenter window became inactive (and could not be reactivated). After pressing Alt-F4, IDScenter window became active again. The bug was caused by the Standard windows messages handling procedure of Delphi (the window handle (HWND) seemed to cause a conflict with BlackICE). Have a nice day...! It has something to do with the "windows message"-handling procedure.

Reporter: Please don't file bugs twice ! You can see a link to the Netscape bug form if you file a new bug in bugzilla. (http://home.netscape.com/browsers/6/feedback/problem.html) You are using Netscape 6.2 (from the dupe, you missed your Build here !) Netscape6.2 is old, you should try a nightly Mozilla build. BTW: If you see this problem with Mozilla0.9.8 I'll install blackice and confirm your bug. (what is BlackIce ?) -> XP APPS

Reporter (Ueli Kistler): Can you try a nightly build ? We fixed a bug with wordperfect which could be the same problem.

Bug still there (Beta 1.1) Mozilla 1.1b Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.1b) Gecko/20020721 Crash after using opening BlackICE Utility when Mozilla is already open. If BlackICE is started first, no problem. Regards, Ueli Kistler iuk@gmx.ch

The bug is also in Mozilla 1.2.1 and (not tested) in 1.3b also i think. Description: Mozilla is open (Messenger). BlackICE Defender is started (Trial from iss.net). A small window opens (see attachement) when tray-icon of BlackICE Defender appears. Seems to be a problem with a handle.

Version: Mozilla 1.2.1 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130 The whole Browser is likely to crash because of this bug. Example: Computer is started up. Mozilla is started, then BlackICE.. the window appears. If you want to use the Browser now, it crashs. Download BlackICE Defender from: www.iss.net I used version 3.5
Severity: major → critical
Summary: BlackICE causes Netscape/(perhaps Mozilla) to open a small window → BlackICE causes Netscape/(perhaps Mozilla) to open a small window - Crash

Reporter: What happens if you open BlackICE (which I presume is a personal firewall product) prior to starting to mozilla?

Comment 17•22 years ago

Nothing happens. Mozilla starts normally and everything is ok. You can download a trial of the product from iss.net (Network ICE BlackICE Defender). Regards, Ueli Kistler

Personal firewalls seem to reset net connections, due to their nature, when you start them. I use zone alarm but I've never seen this problem. Reporter: Are you still getting this problem with BlackICE?
Reporter | ||
Comment 19•21 years ago

Note that BlackICE Defender is NOT REALLY a personal firewall like ZoneAlarm! It can control the traffic on application level but i have deactivated this stuff. You can specifiy rules for incoming traffic only though using rules. The window that is opened is of class MozillaWindowClass and is always very small (see screenshot). Perhaps should ISS correct their product also. Regards, Ueli Kistler

I'm no longer using Black ICE on the workstation. I can send you a trial version which is no longer available on iss.net. Regards, Ueli Kistler
