I have patched CGI.pl to use Net::LDAP when authenticating against LDAP. I have done so because 1) no Mozilla::LDAP package on my Debian system 2) very troublesome install of Mozilla::LDAP required Netscape LDAP C SDK as long as I didn't want to install the entire Mozilla source. 3) my impression is that Net::LDAP is more widely used than Mozilla::LDAP

Bug 120128 has a patch which allows the user to choose between Mozilla::LDAP and Net::LDAP in the Edit Parameters screen. Maybe this bug should be marked duplicate?
