User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS sun4u; en-US; rv:1.1) Gecko/20020827 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS sun4u; en-US; rv:1.1) Gecko/20020827 When loading a "long" web page (ie where you have to scroll down several times), typically with lots of text (the bugzilla "quips" page is just an example of a long page that it happens on), then under Hummingbird's eXceed X server, the background goes black. This happens regardless of what bgcolor is set to in the html, or what the default background color is set to in preferences. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.fire up mozilla under solaris, displaying to an eXceed X server 2.browse to http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/quips.cgi?action=show (for example) 3.what for page to finish loading, scroll down Actual Results: background colour of page goes black (seems to be a redrawing problem) Expected Results: background should have stayed as the html or preferences describe
This is most likely a problem with the Hummingbird X server. I've seen several programs not behaving properly on their X server. Please check your X settings on your PC
The bug poster mentioned Solaris and eXceed being a problem. I use Redhat 7.x and this is also an issue for me. I have tried tuning eXceed but have not been able to reduce/eliminate the symptoms.
Which version of Exceed are you using? I'm using 8.0 and have not been able to reproduce the problem. Can you give a new example of a mis-displayed page, as the referenced URL is now very short.
The bug affected versions 5, 6 and 7 of eXceed. Ive now just installed version 8 and the problem is still there :( A new example of a misdisplayed page can be found at : http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc-2.95.3/gcc_2.html#SEC2
Okay, the problem is readily apparent with that URL. Marking New This doesn't look like bug 192795, though I initially hoped it was related. cc:ing blizzard (owner of that bug) to see if he knows what to make of this. You might want to ask Hummingbird support if they have any ideas.

I was able to use the attached, fairly trivial shell script to generate a sample HTML file that will reproduce the problem on my system using Netscape 7.0. (The Mozilla scroll-down black background when viewed in Hummingbird eXceed.) When the value of LINES is set to 2183, the problem does not occur. YMMV?
I have also problems with this bug. With all versions of mozilla running on HP-UX. I used Exceed 6.2 and 8.0. Is this realy an Exceed problem? When I use Netscape 4.79 this problen does not exist. regards, Erwin
reproduced here (indeed, it has been for some considerable time - I just haven't been annoyed enough to search bugzilla until now). This (as I type) is eXceed 7.1.0.0 on W2K SP3 displaying Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS sun4u; en-US; rv:1.5b) Gecko/20030713 in 24-bit colour, full screen, but it has happened with older versions of both Moz and eXceed. Example page from here: http://www.mysql.com/documentation/mysql/bychapter/manual_Reference.html P.
Further... My setup breaks at 2047 lines using Bob Hall's script; if it had broken at 2048, I'd have been *really* suspicious :)
Hi, I reported this bug to my system administrator also. He asked Hummingbird. Hummingbird is aware of this bug and they fixed it in Exceed 8.0.0.17. Now I'm running Exceed 8.0.0.17 and the problem is gone. kind regards, Erwin
Hummingbird said that the problem was fixed in 8.0.0.11, 7.1.1.15, and 7.0.0.23. I tried the browser on eXceed version 7.1.1.16, but the problem still occurs. So I'm still unclear whether this has been fixed or not.
Testing on my WinXP box, I have confirmed that exceed.exe version 8.0.0.17 fixes the problem. I am marking this bug "invalid" in that there is no Mozilla bug to fix (rather, it was a Hummingbird Exceed problem that has been fixed). Bob, regarding 7.1.1.16, not sure what to tell you. I would recommend contacting Hummingbird support again to see if they have any additional info on fixing this with 7.1.1.x. Or maybe try 7.1.1.17. As for 7.0.0.23, I don't even see that version listed on their site (just .22) Lastly, to save others a search, the latest patches are listed on http://www.hummingbird.com/support/nc/exceed_patches_prod.html

as the original bug reporter, im just adding this to confirm that eXceed 8.0.0.17 does indeed fix the problem
It looks like 8.0.0.17 does not fix the problem on our site. So either I'm experiencing a completely different problem with the same symptoms, or there is some specific configuration that solves the problem which we're not using. Oh well, I'm not quite sure what to do at this point.
We now have a fix for this on our site. First the Hummingbird eXceed product was patched to 7.1.1.26. Next the "Allow Old X11 Bugs" option was disabled in the Xconfig Protocol configuration dialog. Thereafter Mozilla displays pages without the black background.
