RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 191184

(Reporter: tomer, Assigned: mkaply)

Details

(Keywords: regression)

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.3a) Gecko/20021212
Build Identifier:

In some in-depth fields, such as Mail/News Account settings or the Address book,
typing Hebrew appear as gibberish. I.e, "ωμεν" (Shalom) appears as "ιױ". If
you paste the text from external sources or other text fields, you get the right
text.

Even worse, Mozilla does lost the ability to type Hebrew for other fields (the
working ones), if you keep the cursor caret on bad field.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try typing Hebrew in regular text field. This should work.
2. Open the Account settings of mail/news, and try typeing Hebrew in the sender
field. This should fail.
3. While keeping the cursor on that field, try typing Hebrew in the other
working fields. This should fail, too.

Tested on few builds, by me and others, this seems to be exist only on newer
versions than 1.0. Still exists in nightly.
Notes about the pervious post: The Hebrew text attached have to be ISO-8859-8-I
to be seen. The other one is seen as the unicode text, not the entities.

More information here (Hebrew): http://mozilla.org.il/board/viewtopic.php?t=93
Is this a problem only with Hebrew, or can someone reproduce it with other
non-ASCII text?
This works for me with double byte characters.
I also have the same problems with entering some special latin 2 (slovenian)
characters in fields discussed here. I have described this in bug 186798 quite
some time ago and this still isn't fixed.
I think this bug should be fixed before 1.3b is out.
Keywords: regression
I have seen this in a 1.2 build (which was not on my machine) running on Win98.
This WFM with build 2003012213 on Mac osx. So this bug has either been fixed, or
it is a Windows-only bug.
Shoshannah, on Windows XP not all chars are showing correctly in widgets:
Filter, Composer, Mail/News,Address Book
