User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030313

I've been tracking this for a while trying to reproduce it and capture some
useful diagnostics.

From time to time the barber pole progress bar in the lower right corner of the
screen will just keep running. The status message has always indicated
"Connected to pop ...". No mail is being retrieved by from the server.

Further testing indicates that client is connecting to the my secondary mail
account on the same server. I don't know if the account affected is selected by
chance or if it's always the same.

Test messages sent from each account to the other after the problem occured
could be retrieved from the second account but not the first. It also appears
that the client won't retrieve them at this point on its own and it must be
forced via the get messages button.

I setup to always run with an nspr log as per the trouble shooting page. I've
kept the trouble session. It shows connections to the second account only -
despite forcing connections (get messages) to both. I also have a netstat -tun
output and it shows only two conncections.

I checked for bugs under "Pop connect hang", "mail progress bar", and "pop not
receiving".

I don't expect to upgrade until the next set of RPMs are available. I'll retest
at that time.

Bypass is to shutdown and restart Mozilla. Mail suddenly appears after restart.

Thanks,
David

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run Mozilla mail
2. Do other things, periodically check mail
3. Try another day if problem doesn't occur

Actual Results:
Progress bar running and "connected to pop ..." showing but no mail polled from
server.

Expected Results:
Progress bar runs briefly and mail retrived until next poll.

nspr log and netstat output available if needed.
The problem has surfaced 3 times in the last 24 hours. More than all last week.

Found the 1.4 RPMS and upgraded to:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030701

Let's see what happens.
See http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=204702

The above bug tracks the problem after upgrading to 1.4. The progress bar no
longer runs endlessly; however, the client doesn't query the POP server which is
also a symptom of this bug.

David

The related prblem of the client not querying the server is still happening, see
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=127461
Multiple OS, Mozilla from 0.9.8 to 1.5b.
