The only things I can think of which might have caused this to start happening, is going to the customize toolbar dialog, and possibly installing the GoUp addon. These are the only things I have done recently which may have caused this error to show up.

This might be a Linux-specific problem, but I can't test it. It certainly works in Windows. Hopefully someone else can check it out. Christopher, could you please try finding your user profile (I'm not sure where it's kept in Linux) and temporarily remove it? If you load the browser with a fresh profile, will it still crash?

No problems with my 2003-11-18 nightly build on WinXP. Please try a current nightly with a fresh profile without any additional themes and extensions.

type about:config into the location bar, then type throbber into the filter line. browser.throbber.url should show http://www.mozilla.org/products/firebird/ Maybe an extension has put something own over there, or just deleted the URL.

Christopher, do you still see this bug with a current nightly build?
This is often due to corrupted chrome.rdf (for example Bug 230558) usually when this happens "Add engines..." and "Web Search for" also fail since Firefox can no longer access the relevant .properties file.
