The latest trunk nightlies don't install extensions into a fresh profile.
Branch nightlies are unaffected.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. open extension manager
2. click "Install" and choose extension to install
3. click "Install Now" on installation confirmation dialog

Expected Results:

Extension manager says the extension will be installed when I restart Thunderbird.

Actual Results:

Extension manager doesn't say anything about the extension I asked it to
install, and upon restart the extension is not installed.

Tested On:

2004-07-30-11-trunk (where it fails) and 2004-07-31-06-0.8 (where it succeeds)
with Forumzilla extension.
This is a Thunderbird smoketest blocker. Not sure if we hold the tree closed for
those yet (I'd be in favor of that).

any JS errors in the console Myk?
also, note that the trunk build UA is 0.6+

Most extension authors don't list their extentsions as supporting this version
hence many fail to install. It's quite possible the extension you are installing
doesn't advertise itself as supporting a version that old?

bsmedberg broke this...fix for the regression coming up

Attached patch the fixSplinter Review
benjamin landed thunderbird pref changes in support of the aviary xpinstall
changes which aren't in the trunk (Bug #242529). this broke theme and extenion
installations for thunderbird on the trunk.

This patch allows me to install extensions and themes again.

However there is no message after installation saying the extension will be
installed after startup. Nor does the extension show up in the dialog.

My guess is that 242529 needs to land on the trunk before that fucntionality
will start working but I could be wrong...
marking fixed. Myk can you confirm in tomorrow's bits?

Sorry for the delay in responding. Extension installation works correctly
(except for the extension not showing up in the manager, which you've noted as
another bug) on the post-7/31 trunk builds I've tested. Thanks Scott!
