User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a2) Gecko/20040714 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a2) Gecko/20040714 Images are not rendered in my browser! All text is ok. The browser has crashed several times. I sent a message to TalkBack at Apple. (Thats like talking into a black hole. Does anyone here get the information or should I just forget wasting my time with it?) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. close browser 2. open browser 3. images at http://www.lecb.ncifcrf.gov/~toms/ are gone 4. Safari sees the images! 5. Images from other web sites are visible! 6. Images in a different profile are visible! Actual Results: Images show up as small white squares if they have an edge. Ones that have border = 0 are invisible. WOW!!! They are still active links though! My mouse switches to pointer when I go over the image and the link works, but the image is not shown. All images have one size. Expected Results: The usual rendering of images should occur. This is a very weird bug. It makes the browser useless to me. I am fearful that my profile is messed up somehow - I don't want to lose my bookmarks and my password information and other settings! If I were to make a new profile, how would I transfer information from one profile to the other? The files for images are all there. They are accessable over the internet since safari works fine. Switching profile allows me to see them. HELP!!!!

Well, I WAS writing an additional comment (which I'll put below) and it CRASHED. Talkback came up. I did not send. Should I? Talkback never feeds back to ME so it looks like a waste of time.

After the above crash the problem persists. I noticed that I can use the cut (as in cut-paste) mechanism to highlight text and the 'invisible' images show up as little green squares 6mm on a side. I can right click to "View Image". The image shows up on a page alone! When I then go Back, the image is not there. Reload and shift-Reload do not resolve this, I have done that repeatedly. My browser has been rendered USELESS.

BUG PARTIALLY RESOLVED I selected View/Page Info. Under Media I can see all the correct image links. The first one is: http://www.lecb.ncifcrf.gov/~toms/icons/flag/moonflag.jpg So... Dimensions are: Width: 24px, height 24px Physical Width: 0px, Physical Height 0px Hmm. That looks like the bug right there! SOLVED IT!!! (partially) Under Tools/Image Manager Mozilla was set to 'Block Images from this Site"! I certainly did not do that intentionally! ALSO THE BROWSER IS CRASHING. So something is still fishy. That is, setting to block imges causes zero sized images. Perhaps there is a bit of code somewhere that is sensitive and does a division by the size ... which would give infinity and then perhaps a crash. *WHEW* at least I can work again. POSSIBLY RELATED BUG: I just added my 2 cents to what might be a related bug: Bug 240898, "Switching profile sets previous profile to offline". In the present bug, perhaps there was a condition that turned off image viewing for the web site. Ok, going back to the View/Page Info/Media. I did it to the mozilla page and the dimensions of http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/mozilla-banner.gif are Width: 600px, Height: 58px Block images from this site and I get dimensions: Width: 600px, Height: 58px Physical Width: 0px, Physical Height 0px (Note: there is a black table on the top over which the image normally resides. The image has not become black!) Ok, hypothesis: occasionally these zeros may cause a crash. Test of hypothesis: Look for code that uses these variables. Is there ANYPLACE where a division by these is made or where these values are transferred to another place where a division is made?

Joe: | Reporter, did you select 'Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Images | -> From originating Server only' ? Hadn't. | Deos it help when you clear the cache ? No, I tried that repeatedly. But see previous email - the images for the site were turned off, probably not by my doing! Dang. I was trying to get to preferences and it crashed again. Report to Talkback. no details - I conclude it's a Total Waste Of Time compared to Bugzlilla! FORTUNATELY Tom is typing this in vi in a mac Terminal or the text above would have been lost!!! Ok, relaunch Mozilla ... | Reporter, did you select 'Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Images | -> From originating Server only' ? No. It is set to 'Accept all images'. Good guess though!

By the way, I even rebooted my Mac to see if the problem would be solved that way. It was not solved. I discovered the image switch later. HOWEVER, there has been at least one crash since the reboot and I have NOT been pushing the computer's limits with lots of images. (I am, however, looping a song in the Windows Media Player. Gatsian software is cheap and crashy so maybe it causes Mozilla to crash? Naw! This is UNIX - they are separate processes. The Player does NOT stop during the crash. All other programs are fine - safari and terminal. I conclude it is Mozilla itself that crashes.)

Please send talkback data when you can. The information is collected and analyzed as you can see here: http://talkback-public.mozilla.org/reports/ The crashes you got when you had blocked the images sounds like bug 253597 or bug 247712. Did you have crashes after you enabled the images again also? If so, then please file a new bug report as the original problem in this bug has been solved. We only handle one issue per bug report. Thank you. -> INVALID
