After you set the preference show_send_progress to false you run in trouble when
sending of a message fails within the sending process. 

1. Some entries out of the file menu doesn't react on user actions.
2. No error message is shown why the sending fails.
3. You have to press Alt+F4 and confirm the warning with 'Quit' to stop the
process => Now you get the error message which should be displayed after a
specific numbers of connection problems. 

In part 3 you will run in dataloss when quitting the process. You get the error
message which you have to confirm with ok. Now the compose window is closed and
your written text is lost!

I think this isn't only Win2k specific but I couldn't test on other OS.

Henrik, do you still see this bug?  I've always had this preference set to 
false, and I've never seen the symptom.
