found while using 200410080x-0.8 (linux and mac os x). I couldn't figure out how
to change the quicksearch options using the keyboard.

a. unable to change the type of quicksearch (subject, sender, entire message,
etc.): I placed focus in the quicksearch field (accel+K), but Ctrl+Up/Down arrow
do nothing. (Ctrl+Up/Down works cross-platform to change the search engine in
Firefox's search field.) Also tried other variations
(Alt/Option/Cmd/Shift+Up/Down), but they didn't work either.

b. not sure if it'd be applicable/feasible in thunderbird, but: in firefox you
can view a list of previously-entered search strings (a la autofill), just by
hitting the Down/Up arrows. cannot seem to do this in tbird --should we?

I'd be satisfied with getting (a) implemented...
Summary: no way to changes quicksearch options via keyboard → no way to change quicksearch options via keyboard
as far as (a) goes, it's a bit trickier in thunderbird because we only have one
icon in the search bar. Each search engine in the browser has a different icon.
As you use ctrl up/down, you get feedback that you changed something because the
icon changes. For us the icon would be the same and you would have no idea what
search mode you are really on.

This hooks up ctrl up and ctrl down to cycle through the first 4 search
criteria. We don't allow you to cycle through to the virtual folder menu item
since that's an actual action and not a search mode.

I also made it so we disable the create virtual folder menu item when you have
selected the Find in Message quick search criteria which was something else

scott, thanks for implementing this! I see what you mean in comment 1: no visual
indication of what kind of search you're doing when you hit ctrl+up/down.
interestingly, though, if I change focus to some place other than the
quicksearch field, then the grey text describing the quicksearch type appears
--a nice touch.

anyway, I could file a bug/rfe to request artwork to get different icons for the
types of quicksearch. (unless it already exists, will search.)

vrfy'ing this as fixed (tested with 2004101206-0.8 on linux fc2).
