I was looking at a folder inbox-dp where I filter all emails directed to dp@netscape.com. I selected two messages in threaded view and hit delete. Got a dialog that said am I sure to delete selected messages. Said yes to lose all messages in folder inbox-dp DamN!

We don't have a dialog that comes up when you go to delete a set of messages. We only have a dialog when you try to delete a folder. I think this is pilot error. dp, I'm pretty sure you had focus in the folder pane when you hit delete. So we asked you if you really want to delete your folder. Your deleted folder is probably in your trash folder so you should be able to copy the folder back out of your trash folder into your top level folders and be back in business.
Karen - can you contact DP to help him get his folder back? Thanks

dp, what IMAP server are you using? what delete mode are you setting for this IMAP mail account?
Karen - I'm pretty sure DP is using one of the "nsmail-*" servers and I'm pretty sure he is using the delete to trash model. Can you contact him to look at his system?

I am using nsmail-2 I reproduced the problem with Karen. I indeed had focus on my folder. Here is how I go there. Click on a the folder when viewing messages in the folder. This gets focus into the folder (as expected). Now if you click on any message in the folder, focus never restores to the message thread pane. Thanks mscott, karen.I got my folder back from my trash. Maybe the message I saw did say folder and I just saw selected and said OK. Changeing subject and severity. Removing dogfood. Keeping nsbeta3.
Severity: critical → normal
Keywords: dogfood
Summary: Lost all messages from a folder → Focus to folder not lost when clicking on message

I think this is similar to http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44572 which mail triage just minused.
actually, here are the steps: 1. Select a folder 2. Select a message in the thread pane 3. Message loads in the message pane 4. Click focus back to the thread pane, selecting the same folder you did in item 1. 5. Notice how the thread pane and message pane do not change 6. Press delete 7. Warning about deleting the folder comes up 8. If choose yes, the folder is deleted. Step 5 is what is deceiving. If in step 4, you selected another folder, the message pane would clear and nothing would be selected in the thread pane. Less chance of the user pressing delete.

minus. The user has a warning dialog about deleting the folder and has to choose yes or no.

marking WFM. As far as I can tell, focus is working correctly. When I click on the folder pane again, the thread pane selection goes gray and the folder pane selection turns blue. Also the focus rect moves to the folder pane. When I click on the thread pane or message pane the same thing happens to those panes.
