Mozilla.org is always spouting how they're different from Netscape. That's kind of hard to believe since Netscape owns the Mozilla trademark, and Netscape owns the mozilla.org website. Mozilla.org should become a non-profit organization owned by no one but themselves.

mozilla.org makes decisions for the benefits of the community, not for the benefit of any particular contributor, whether Netscape or otherwise. This is different from how the Netscape client groups makes decisions. Becoming a viable non profit is easy to say, harder to do.

This issue may be forced sooner than one thinks. The .org registry may become a place for only the registered non-profit organizations. That would mean Mozilla.org would have to forfit it's domain. The current timeline is for 31 December 2002.

Please see the Mozilla Donations Page bug 111392 as something that would be possible if Mozilla became a non-profit organization.

There's still no progress on this, is there? Considering comment #2, we have less than half a year if the timeline mentioned is still on track. I for one would love to see a Mozilla Organization independant from AOLTW, and considering bug 111392...

What's this about .org becoming reserved for non-profit organizations only? Am I going to have to give up my .org domains? I doubt that. I am not a lawyer. Do not take this as legal advice. Considering that Mozilla could soon face a lawsuit filed by Toho, the holder of the Godzilla copyright, we should be thankful that AOL-TW's big legal guns will be there to protect the Mozilla Project. I am not a lawyer. Do not take this as legal advice.

Yay! I'll refrain from reopening this bug (since technically the non-profit status has not been granted yet). I'll mark this as verified when that happens.
