This bug is to be used to track sites that use Peter Belesis's hierMenu script. See http://www.webreference.com/dhtml/ for the latest version. If you find a site using an old version of hierMenu that does not work with Mozilla, please 1. file an evangelism bug on the site. 2. make the bug block this bug so we can easliy track hierMenu issues 3. send the owner of the site an email pointing them to the latest version of Peter Belesis's hierMenu which does support Mozilla. 4. note in the bug that you sent the letter 5. mark [TOOL][HIERMENU] in the status whiteboard to allow us to run queries as well. Thanks, Bob

Marking status whiteboard to classify bug and increasing priority to P1 since this script is widely used.

Unfortunately the frame-enabled version of version 4.x hasn't been released yet. See http://www.golfinfo.at/start.asp for example. Any info from Peter concerning the release date of it?

I heard that the new version is out
Version 4.0.14 of the HierMenus code has just been posted at the WebReference site that addresses this issue, and web authors are encouraged to download and update their HM code (which now works as intended for NS6.0, 6.1, and Mozilla builds before and after 20010726). Perhaps bug 85104 should be marked as fixed, as this is an HM issue, and not a problem with Mozilla code.

Markus, I am not clear as to what you mean by the "frame enabled" version. Can you elaborate?
Comment 12•23 years ago
|
||
Up to now the versio 4 of the HierMenus is only available in a version that doesn't support frames at the moment. Peter said that the next version having this feature enabled will be upcoming next. This is needed urgently since most web sites today have a frame architecture. One example would be http://www.golfinfo.at/start.asp

Peter just released version 4.1 with support for framsets! :) http://www.webreference.com/dhtml/column58/

I'm sorry - forget my last comment. Framset support is still not included and this will take probably another 3-4 weeks till this is integrated into the HierMenus. Will talk with Peter to hopefully speed things up upon this.

Major sites are still facing the problem that there is no HierMenu version that supports frames (and is working with Mozilla/NS6.X) ! Any news when Peter Belesis will provide this version?!

changed url to point to HM page. use letter templates at http://mozilla-evangelism.bclary.com/letter/misc/ be sure to mention that they should upgrade to the latest and greatest. Before you send a letter, check the HM page and see what the current version is....

Peter Belesis just released version 4.1.2 but there is still no information when a version will be available that supports frames! Any news from Peter Belesis about the progress?

Markus, The current version *does* support frames. What it does *not* support is having a mouseover in one frame, but the menu appearing in another frame. To support frames properly, in the array file, instead of a direct URL, you should have a URL similar to: javascript:FRAMENODE.location='http://www.dhtmlab.com/' Where FRAMENODE is of course a DOM node depicting the frame you want it to load in. I think that |top.getElementById('frame')| would suffice for pulling in a frame node, but I haven't played with frames that much (I think they suck) so that bit might not exactly be correct. And of course the links wouldn't work in NS4... Maybe writing a function similar to: |loadURL(url, targetFrame)| can help with getting it to work Xbrowser. Most sites can get by with this, can't they?

A good example is the site http://www.golfinfo.at/intro.asp There is no way to display the menu in the lower frame in the current version of HierMenu.

Markus, feature requests for HierMenu should go to Peter. He is kind enough to support the Standards and Mozilla and that is all we can really ask of him. If he wishes to add support for frames, that is up to him.

Hiermenus 3 is widely used. The main reason for not upgrading to a newer version is that hiermenus 3 is FREE and the newer versions are US$1000+ per site. Workaround for this problem is needed.

I looked at all the reamining depending bugs and they are all fixed. I don't think that this old hiermenu is used in new pages, marking this bug fixed !
