Do you mean the bar that appears when a contact is requesting a connection? Not the alerts I designed on the right bar, right?

I guess that could be useful if the user is stepping away from the computer and wants to be sure the contact won't send sensitive information until he's back.
I agree that it's probably an extreme case, but I'd say it's better having it than not.

Maybe this could be printed in the alert bar above the contact's info?

I agree.
If you guys could come up with some scenarios, I could create mock-ups to go over each one of them and have a visual workflow of how we'd want to handle them.
