We've ran tests on FF 67.0a1, 66.0 and using Windows 10 x64, Mac OSX 10.14.1 and Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS with the attached extension. 
New profiles were used with multiple browser restarts and new tabs open and also by disabling/enabling/uninstalling the test extension in order to cover all flows. The described error is not showing in the browser console and neither is a blank page instead of the extension's new tab on these Fx versions.
