Yeah, that's what I was thinking I've seen too. 
Anyhow, reporter Victor, I'm a bit confused when you say

But I am fairly sure the underlying server behind the proxy is Dovecot.

I have a dovecot server and a Zimbra server as separate programs.  Are you saying you think Zimbra uses dovecot code for their servers? That may be true, don't know.. If you you look in the large imap:5 log that you don't want to attach, please tell me if the CAPABILITY or ID response mentions Dovecot,  Zimbra, neither or both. 
Another possibility is for you to provide me with a temporary test account on the server so I can test this from here.

I should also ask if you are using any shared or public folders?
