I tried to replicate this on windows10 64 bit using the same version of firefox that you have (version76) and also Firefox nightly version 78.0a1
i wen to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/google-meet-gridview/

then i installed the addon and i was able to see the icon on the top right area.
Then i joined a meeting and i an able to see the icon and its options.

Im not sure of the link you mention that does not exist  , can you share a screenshot?

please download Firefox Nightly from here: https://nightly.mozilla.org/ and retest the problem.
