One change which seems to be in Thunderbird version 78.9 is Bug 1641866 - XUL prototype cache preference ( `nglayout.debug.disable_xul_cache`) is not updated correctly if deleted at runtime. The net effect of that change to Thunderbird performance when updates occur is not clear to me.
