I opened Bug 1690659 about the end state of the repo when something fails during `moz-phab submit`; but I neglected to open a bug about the underlying cause: I am seeing intermittent failures, always with the same message: 

    CommandError: command 'log' failed to complete successfully

I see this about once a month or so? I am using visual studio code, with a mercurial plugin... could there be some sort of repo-race here?
