1.  Is this the same as bug 1788599

2.  In relation to my comments about the _Show a tray icon for unread messages_ notification, further experience is consistent with @jan.t.neurer's.  Changing the setting doesn't fix the problem, though for me, it does seem to reduce the time to shutdown from a long time, to generally just a couple of minutes.
