WhatsApp found the bug and described it [here](https://github.com/webcompat/web-bugs/issues/125920). A fix is developed "and should be deployed on Monday". I'll close this bug as fixed because of that. But it sounds like we need to do some follow-up diagnosis to figure out if there is something that Firefox can change to make this behavior less surprising.
