@Matt: This bug is about implementing OAuth for Microsoft 365 (formerly Office365) email. Thunderbird doesn't have any choice in the matter, because Microsoft will disable the normal password-based auth for IMAP and SMTP in October, so TB is forced to implement that. With the OAuth2 support, TB will also automatically support MFA.
(FWIW, I am not objecting to any of this. I objected to how it happened.)
