The status of this code is funky. Bug 1168606 has landed what broke things in 71, but also landed things years ago, as well as in the 72 cycle. The code Nathan specifically points out in comment 14 doesn't exist anymore, and instead, uses something kind of like what he suggested, but using a `GetSortKeyClause` function. OTOH, the others are still there, but indexTable and table have been using ?: for as long as the file has existed...
