Did you set browser.urlbar.update2.expandTextOnFocus to true? > and then just as suddenly go back to the original size as the focus moves back away. For the borders of this box/window to suddenly unnaturally jut/shoot out. As a visually-sensitive and neurally-sensitive person the new bar causes great stress to my eyes and brain. You can disable animations in your OS accessibility settings, we respect that setting and avoid animating the growth if it's set, as well as many other animations. > Apparently the feedback about the whole 'mega bar' you got in the Nightly and onwards stages was also overwhelmingly negative It was not, we also got very positive feedback, of course there's a group of users who don't like it. Feedback is a data point to use for decision making, alone by itself is not necessarily the right thing to do, in both directions (positive feedback doesn't mean everything was done right).
