Thanks! That example in comment 4 is perfect; I can reproduce the change.

Google Chrome (version 91 dev) agrees with Firefox's updated rendering -- it renders your testcase the same way that Firefox 87+ does (though Chrome versions 89 release and 90 beta do match Firefox's older rendering).  So I think what we're seeing here was actually a bug fix that Firefox and Chrome have both made around the same time.  If you like the old behavior, you can style your table with `align-self:start` to opt it out of the flexbox stretching behavior.

So I think what we're seeing here was actually a bug fix that Firefox and Chrome have both made around the same time. (EDIT: actually you'd probably want `flex-start`, not `start`, since Chrome doesn't support the `start` keyword yet; and the two keywords usually mean the same thing anyway.)
