Re comment 25:
Henry, if you were to:
* remove the recipient-centric options (in address book, and domain based in preferences UI), and
* remove the mail-centric "Ask" dialog, and
* leave the sender-centric options completely alone
  * only changing the meaning of current 0 = Ask to now 0 = Auto = Both, and
  * moving the UI pref from the sub-pref-dialog into the Compose pref pane

then it should work as expected. Users can still set their preference of how they want to send mail (e.g. newsfan sets it to HTML-only, and others set it to plaintext-only, and the rest keeps the default = Auto = Both). This should not upset many people. However, altering or removing the sender-centric settings will upset lots of people.
