Keeping the Compatibility addon disabled.
Did you completely remove the Bitdefender Spam Toolbar from Thunderbird and restart Thunderbird to see if it was specifically the Bitdefender Toolbar causing the problem?  If no then please try it and report back on results
Over recent years Bitdefender has been known to cause many issues. Usually, it is a good idea to let Bitdefender know about them.
