The testcase in bug 427928 still triggers the assertions it was filed with, at least on Mac.

Thanks, I meant to file this but didn't get around to it.  I was hoping
to find a quick fix for the GTK issue (bug 1031662) so that we could
enable it again (which would fix the assert) but it will probably take
a while to sort that out.
