* Open a new tab
* Open Firefox Dev Tools
* Select "Network"
* Select button to start profiling
* Load https://thimble.webmaker.org
* Wait a while
* Look in bottom right hand corner

Result:

117 requests, 1.132MB, 9.46 seconds

Expected:

20 requests, 500KB, 2 seconds (or something like that)

On a sucky network this takes ages, and fails entirely a non-neglible amount of the time (particularly as it seems that a network load fail from any of the external sites prevents a full load - are you using defer?) There are lots of tiny JS files. Surely they can be combined or minimised? Use a font for the icons or use an icon sheet, etc.

This is something I want to dig into. We've been replacing the guts of Thimble with Brackets (see https://bramble.mofostaging.net). I really want to get this down to the smallest possible size that still has all the features we want. I've filed this at https://github.com/mozilla/thimble.webmaker.org/issues/488 and am going to close it here (we're going to start working in Github Issues for the Thimble work over the summer).
