1045334 - Inconsistent Search Results Depending on Where Search Is Initiated

Search results in addons.mozilla.org may result in different Web pages for the same add-on.  This depends on what Web page within addons.mozilla.org the search is initiated.  

Case 1:  

1.  Go to <https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/>.  

2.  At the top of the page, select [Other Applications > Thunderbird].  

3.  Under "ADD-ONS", select Themes.  

4.  In the search input area, enter Nuvola and select Nuvola from the pull-down list.  

5.  On the Search Results page, select Nuvola, not Nuvola3.  

6.  On the Nuvola page, the Add to Thunderbird button attempts to install the theme in the current browser.  The button's link does not appear to be a URI to an .xpi file.  

7.  A "Save Link Target As" on the Add to Thunderbird button results in saving the .htm file for the Web page for the Personas Plus extension to the user's hard drive.  

Case 2:  

1.  Go to <https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/>.  

2.  On that page -- without navigating to Thunderbird Themes -- enter Nuvola in the search input area and select Nuvola TB from the pull-down list (which was not the same as in Case 1).  

3.  On the Nuvola page, the Add to Thunderbird button attempts to install the theme in Thunderbird.  The button's link is a URI to an .xpi file.  

4,  A "Save Link Target As" on the Add to Thunderbird button results in saving the .xpi file for the Nuvola theme to the user's hard drive.  

NOTE WELL:  The Web page for Nuvola in Case 1, Step 6 (at <https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/nuvola-248134/?src=ss>), is not the same as the Web page for Nuvola in Case 2, Step 3 (at <https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/nuvola-tb/>).  Images of those two pages will be attached to this bug report.

Thanks for filing this.  Due to resource constraints we are closing bugs which we won't realistically be able to fix.  If you have a patch that applies to this bug please reopen.

Something is broken at addons.mozilla.org.  It is a definite problem.  When I tried to obtain a theme for Thunderbird, the Web site attempted to install that theme for my browser (SeaMonkey).  The result could be corruption of my browser's theme.  

Since other maintenance activity indeed occurs at that Web site, I do not understand why this problem cannot be fixed.
