This bug is about animating the search bar when it switches active states. See the video in bug 1042189 for a mock-up of what this should look like. Let's focus on the animation of the search bar underline in this bug, and use bug 1043027 to animate the close button. Currently, the search bar underline is implemented as a background on the EditText, so we may need to change this implementation for the animation to happen. We may also want to hold off on this bug until we sort out bug 1043034.

Anthony, in the video, the pointer is tapping on the home button to transition from search results to search suggestions. Is that supposed to be tapping on the back button?
