User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/37.0.2062.124 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce: Go to settings-> sound 1. Press hardware volume up/down & take it to vibration mode by pressing volume down. Media volume in settings->sound decreases to 0. 2. Touch the notification & ringer, decrease the volume to 0. Media doesn't decrease. Actual results: Media should go to 0 Expected results: From both place behaviour should be same

Hi there, We just had a discussion on the issue you mentioned here, the decision is to unlink "ringtone & notification" and "media" volume. So (in the future after the fix lands) when you use hardware key and volume down to vibration or silent mode, only ringtone & notification" will be affected, media volume remains unchanged. Thanks!

Hi Alive As per Jenny's comment's if I have to do the same - then I should remove https://github.com/mozilla-b2g/gaia/blob/v2.0/apps/system/js/sound_manager.js#L608 and https://github.com/mozilla-b2g/gaia/blob/v2.0/apps/system/js/sound_manager.js#L613 Am, I right?

Thanks! I suspect this behavior is correct. This was designed by Casey before and we had come to a conclusion that when we press volume down to 0, music should not play to make the user able to easily turn off music playing + notification sound while he is in a meeting. May I know why is decision made?

Hello Alive, The decision is made after discussion with Mike and Omega. We understand that both approaches have advantages and disadvantages. Current behavior conveniently let user enters "mute all sounds" mode at ease, it can be useful in certain use cases, however, it's unclear to user that using hardware key volume down to silent/vibrate would also affect media volume (when using hardware key). Also, as mentioned in this bug, the behavior when user adjusts ringer & notification volume in Settings> Sound is different from adjusting volume with volume key. To avoid all the confusions, we've decided to unlink the two settings. Let me know if you have any other concern. Thank you!
