Excpected: normal view.

NS6.1 just seems to hang forever. My Mozilla debug build fires a bunch of 
assertions about not legal table cell width (I'll attach the console output and 
the stack trace on the first assertion), NS4x works fine.

That's what you probably can get when you leave your box on for nearly a month. 
I rebooted my machine and do not see the problem any more. Marking INVALID.
