Under X Windows, selecting text in the "Edit as HTML" box does not update the primary selection. The only way to copy text from this box is to use ctrl+c and copy it to the clipboard, and then get it from the clipboard.

Trying to confirm this, but not sure what is supposed to happen. What is meant by "box does not update the primary selection"? My guess is that maybe if you select text you should be able to right click and have a menu come up that includes 'copy'. That does not happen in Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0

When you select text, that text should be in the X primary selection, with no further, separate action.

So, this bug report means that, when you select text in this box, that text is not in the primary selection, and can't be pasted in another program, when pasting from this selection.

Can you give an example task that would indicate something is or is not in the primary selection?

One thing I tried was selecting the text and then click and dragging it into a text editor. The selected text did copy to the text editor.

Select the text using the left button on the mouse, then in some other textbox or text area (you can even use LibreOffice Writer, version 4.4.5.2 here) click with the middle mouse button. If your mouse has a scroll wheel instead of a middle button, click using the scroll wheel. If you are on a laptop or something else with two buttons, you can try clicking on both buttons at the same time. If this does not work (third button emulation), you will need to get an external mouse that has three clickable buttons.

If you want to test the *expected* behaviour, try selecting some text from the web page, and then clicking in LibreOffice Writer with the middle button.

(This is not related to drag-and-drop.)

I am able to reproduce this:

I'll write the steps I followed below:

1) Load a web page, right click a web element and select the "Inspect Element" option
2) Right click the selected line in the inspector and click "Edit as HTML"
3) A box appears with the code in it. The cursor points to the beginning of the line but the text isn't selected automatically. See attachment 8700563 [details]
4) The code can only be selected by dragging the cursor from the start to the end and then using Ctrl + C. Right clicking isn't possible neither is using the mouse scroll wheel.
