Details

Currently links to some Mozilla-run services look like external links. This ought to be fixed by adding interwiki such as these ones:

ftp: interwiki

Instead of writing [http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/webtools/mozbot-2.6.tar.gz mozbot] on the wiki, we should be able to write [[ftp:pub/mozilla.org/webtools/mozbot-2.6.tar.gz|mozbot].

irc: interwiki

Instead of writing [irc://irc.mozilla.org/#firefox|#firefox]] we should be able to write [[irc:#firefox|]].
Interwiki is not for setting up protocol links. It's for linking to other instances running the MediaWiki software.

It's possible to set up special styling (icons) to indicate that these servers are Mozilla-run. It's also possible to use templates to make writing such URLs easier.

There already exists such a template for IRC URLs:

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Template:IRC

To use it:

{{IRC|#firefox}}
{{IRC|#mediawiki|irc.freenode.net}}

Believe that this has been answered and can now be closed (especially as the Mozilla IRC server was decommissioned a couple of months ago).
