I thought Mozilla does no longer provide project-specific donation support? Thus, it would have to be a non-Mozilla donation site, correct? Does one exist already?

Bug 1018951 shows that MoFo wants Indiegogo as the path for this. As I said at the Summit, I do not think that the Indiegogo approach is correct for a variety of reasons, which seem to coincide with the SeaMonkey concerns expressed in bug 1018951. There is also the concern that Thunderbird may get forced to follow procedures that were really setup for tiny projects like a regional Moz Reps meeting, while with almost 10,000,000 daily users our scale is much, much larger and so the appropriate solutions may be quite different.

Interesting though that MoFo claims they will apply resource to the campaign, we should tap into that. I'll get on this following the contacts from the SM bug. Perhaps that help could advise us on how we could use Indiegogo with a Council-like structure, which we now have in common with SM.

Funny that MozReps as a group don't have this issue. Why can't we be treated like them?

Philip and rsx11m, please share with us anything new that you discover about possibilities, as we have a common set of issues here.

So, is this actually directing the funds to Thunderbird or will it just end up in the big but rather diffuse Mozilla bucket?

For SeaMonkey, there is bug 1081726 to allow donations directly for the project.

It's just placeholder for now. Or well, it donates to mozilla but it's not hooked up into anything thunderbird. We need to get the strings in now for 38, and sort out the link/how to get that directed to a thunderbird later.
