Currently the user has to long press to enter edit mode, then long press again to move any icon or group within edit mode. This feels redundant.

Could we try to remove the need for long press to move items in edit mode? Or reduce the time threshold for the long press significantly? We may need to play around with this to get it feeling right.
You don't need to long-press again to drag an icon (or a group), the original long press will initiate the drag - we can certainly reduce the time delay in edit mode, but I'm not sure how we would remove it entirely and still be able to scroll?
This isn't really related to app-grouping, it's just a general homescreen bug/feature request. This is also lacking any information to do anything about it, so I'm going to close it for now. Please reopen with more information if you think this was premature.
