Steps to reproduce:

Trouble started when latest version of Thunderbird (31.3.0) installed yesterday. It appears all settings are fine. The earlier versions have worked fine for 8 years now.


Actual results:

All incoming email stays on the Brighthouse server. Does not download to Thunderbird.
So what actually happens?

Possible reasons:
 - you use a (software) firewall/antivirus program that need to be configured to allow connections through
 - the server uses SSL 3 which is no longer allowed
