For involving Mozilla community members in Firefox OS QA activities

Justification / Special Instructions:
> For involving Mozilla community members in Firefox OS QA activities

How is this different from what happens in mozilla.qa.b2g?

Gerv
mozilla.qa.b2g
* discussion revolves around day-to-day testing activities
* most emails concern topics that are confidential to partners
* no community focus
* cannot join this list without moderator's approval

mozilla.qa.b2g.community
* discussion would revolve around community activities only like:
** how to get Flame devices
** how to organize test days and bug bashes
** act on feedback received on One and Done tasks completed
** reward community members with Open Badges
** announce community events
* all emails concern topics that are *not* confidential to partners
* can join this list without moderator's approval
:gerv, do you have enough information to move forward with this, please?

Parul: I think you have a bit of a problem if you are trying to make the split outlined above. And I also think there's some confusion here.

mozilla.qa.b2g (qa-b2g@lists.mozilla.org) is a public list. So I think it's unlikely that you would be using it for confidential partner information. Are you sure you're not thinking of some other list?

Now that I look, mozilla.qa.b2g has not been used since 2012. So it seems that it's ripe for you to take it over and use it for the purposes you outline above for mozilla.qa.b2g.community. So why don't you do that?

Also, "community" does not mean "non-employees". "Community" is all of us. As a practical matter, we should avoid splitting Mozilla contributors into employees and non-employees except where absolutely totally necessary for legal reasons.

Ok, I will definitely take a look at re-purposing mozilla.qa.b2g.

This is one of those cases where it is totally necessary for legal reasons.
:pragmatic: can we close this bug? Is mozilla.qa.b2g OK for you?

Gerv,
We're looking at re-purposing mozilla.qa.b2g and modeling it on other mailing lists within b2g like dev-gaia, dev-b2g and dev-platform.
1. Can we get data on the subscription numbers of these mailing lists?
2. Are they moderated mailing lists? (In the sense, can anyone join freely or do they list moderator approval to join?)

Sounds good.

> 1. Can we get data on the subscription numbers of these mailing lists?

Yes, but not useful data. That is, such lists are available as mailing lists, via NNTP and as Google Groups. You can get a count of people subscribed to the mailing list version, but that won't tell you how many are reading using the other two methods.

All Mozilla discussion forums are free to join. However, there is content moderation via a spam filter, and non-members may not post.
