I'd don't have good STR here. Watching YouTube all morning then after an advert had finished, it went to a video but the video had no sound.

Yes, kind of, bug 1134977 (the part about missing sound effect, not the part about shutdown hang).

I had this issue too, on Windows 8.1, but not linked to an add (nature sounds of 8h).
I tried to reproduce it. 
4h55 listening the same link, and no bug.

I'm assuming this is fixed now. We had a bug when resuming after an ad (bug 1207946)
