RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1149895

People

(Reporter: educmale, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; WOW64; rv:36.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/36.0
Build ID: 20150320202338

Steps to reproduce:

I received a dialog box notifying me of the update to 37.0

I am operating 36.0.4.

On receipt of the dialog box, I clicked on the notification dialog's URL to examine the nature of the updates; I then closed the dialog box (using the "x").

When finished with the effort/work I was engaged in, I returned to fox to read the web pages on the update, and then I went to the Help-->About Firefox, and observed the update check, expecting to have a means to actuate the update.

Instead of reporting the new update, it reports that 36.0.4 is up to date; there is no means to ignite the update to 37

Expected results:

The update check should report the same information that is offered by the automatic notification dialog box.

I note, if it should matter, that I have automatic updates set to check for updates but let me decide whether to install them.
Closing and restarting Fox does not trigger displaying an available update, either by notification or when manually going to help-->about.
Component: Untriaged → Application Update
Product: Firefox → Toolkit
This is due to you getting the update notification and after that the update being removed by the Firefox release drivers due to issues with the release.

Interesting . . . a good thing that recall, then; I wonder, however, if there could be a notice about withheld updates built into the update system, post notification, or if that would be a mess to engage.

In my case, the time from the auto notification popup, to the help-->about, was about 5-10 minutes. It would have been nice to have received some notification about that, outside of this bug report.
With how seldom this happens and that when it does happen there have been extremely few bug reports, etc. I don't think we would ever want a notification. At most it might say something in the about window but adding that would be very low in priority in comparison to other work.
