User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:36.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/36.0
Build ID: 20150320202338

Steps to reproduce:

I've seen this twice before now and still don't know how to reliably reproduce it aside from "wait" and "do lots of stuff."

Actual results:

The write button is disabled at the application level. Switching views to a different account and back/forth between folders does nothing to restore ability to click write button. Interestingly, the File>New Message is also disabled.

Expected results:

Nothing should have happened. There's no apparent reason for the write button to be disabled.
Yes, I've seen bug 1138478 and only the symptoms are similar; it appears to be entirely different based on steps to reproduce.
Can you reproduce your issue in safe mode?

Can you also reproduce bug 1138478?

Yes I can reproduce too. The toolbar button (but also file->new->message) get explicit disabled=true attribute.

I can't find a place that sets it like that as isEnabled("cmd_newMessage") is intended to always return true in command controllers.

I wonder which controller is governing the menus in when the "saved files" tab is open as many items are disabled at that time.
Sorry, I wanted to write that into bug 1138478. I don't know what the steps are in this bug.
Patrick, do you have the traditional menu bar (File, Edit, View ...) shown?
If yes, are you using or touching the menus in any other tab/window except the main 3-pane tab?
In bug 1138478, it is sufficient to just mouse-hover the menus of the "Saved Files" tab which will already permanently deactivate the Write button for that session.

You can restart TB to reactivate the write button.
Perhaps bug 1138478 will fix this for you.

Please answer Wayne's questions of comment 2.

Summary: Write button is disabled → Write button is disabled for the rest of the session after doing stuff in TB
But this bug is filed against TB31, which does not have the new Saved Files as tab.

Also, please test with version 38
