What problems would this solve?
===============================
I use MDN every day as a CSS and JavaScript reference; it's extremely useful in this regard. However, MDN covers a large number of topics, and when I run a search it's not immediately clear which topic corresponds to each search result. The list of search results is cluttered by topics I'm not interested in, so I use the Topics filter to narrow my search. But the topics I'm interested in are almost always the same. It would be great if MDN remembered my topic selections for future visits.

Who would use this?
===================
Developers who often us MDN to quickly look up syntax. It would make getting from the Firefox search bar or Chrome's address box to an article blazingly fast.

What would users see?
=====================
When you check a box in the list of topics, that box would remain checked for future visits until manually un-checked by the user.

What would users do? What would happen as a result?
===================================================
Users would select the topics they often refer to, and future searches would be filtered to those topics by default.

Is there anything else we should know?
======================================
Another way of solving this problem would be to use icons or colors to differentiate the topics, speeding their visual identification. That would require more design work, though. Saving a user's preferences with a cookie seems like a relatively easy fix.
