Steps how to reproduce with EN-US Seamonkey 2.33.1 (German Language pack) Gecko/20100101 Build 20150321194901 (Default Theme) on German WIN7 64bit: 1. Launch SeaMonkey (Browser, does not matter) 2. <f1> » Help dialog appears 3. Into Search term input line type "Message" » Several hits will appear in Search results pane Unexpectedly for some items you will find 2 hits like "Composing Messages" "composing messages" I think that is unnecessary, small letter hit is superferfluous and should be dropped. There are more, may be much more such small letter clones what should be dropped.

Related to "Bug 155693 - Help search result is "internet keyword" instead of "Internet Keyword" "?

My guess is that you get results from both these sources: suite/locales/en-US/chrome/common/help/help-index1.rdf suite/locales/en-US/chrome/common/help/suite-toc.rdf

Plausible suspect, I found strings (with different small letter / capital letter writing as per screenshot) composing messages, creating HTML mail messages, filing messages, getting new messages in these files, no more tested.

I think case insensitivity in a search function is usually desired[1]. You could implement an optional case sensitive search like the option in the toolkit findbar. Bonus points for implementing a Google-lite syntax e.g. "Quotes" will do a verbatim search. [1] German capitalizes all nouns, but not all languages do.

(In reply to Philip Chee from comment #4) > I think case insensitivity in a search function is usually desired What search do you have in mind? Currently I see that Help Search is case insensitive. Search for "Composing Messages" and "cOmPoSiNg mEsSaGeS" delivers the same 2 hits, what both lead to the same Help Item "Composing Mail and Newsgroup Messages". Independent to this report Help Search will need some fine tuning to deliver more reliable and useful hits, also see "Bug 1135490 - MailNews: Help search for icon names fails because of inconsistencies "Archivieren" - "Ablegen", "File" - "Filing Messages", "Archivo" - "Guardar mensajes""

The problem is not limited to MeilNews

There are similar strange results with active German language pack. Here identical hits have the same case, but sometimes leave to different targets. It seems that duplicates with German language pack do not appear as often as in English help, but I did not check that intensively.

I don't think the problem here is the search function (which should be case-insensitive), instead it is that we have multiple instances (capitalized/ not capitalized) in the .rdf files.

(In reply to Stefan [:stefanh] from comment #8) Yes, of course. The question is why these different .rdf files have been created. May be there is an other application where those case differences might matter?
