If you hover over the URLbar, you get a tooltip that is the exact same width as
the urlbar itself. This just looks wrong on short strings.

The tooltip should resize itself to only fit the actual text and not have lots
of whitespace.
I can confirm this. I mentioned this to rkaa last night and she said it has
been happening for a few weeks, though I've only seen it for the first time last
night on the 121921 build. I still see on 122008. Seen on Linux -> OS All.
OS: Windows 98 → All
Same on MacOS 8.6 Platform All.

Maybe this should be a new bug, but I report here as it is closely related.
Tooltips also appear when one opens the URLbar dropdown and hovers over links
therein. The tooltip is also always very wide, but what is even worse is that
the text in it is nonsensical: it is the tooltip text which was last displayed
when hovering over the chrome of that window, e.g. "Go back one page". If it is
a newly opened page the tooltip is empty and very narrow.

If the tooltips for URLs in the URLbar dropdown are needed at all, they should
make sense. Otherwise they should be removed.
hewitt filed a duplicate bug on himself and fixed this; bug 116010.
