After I installed the java plugin for mozilla release 0.9.7 and buildid
2001122108 (I followed the link on the releases page. Mozilla was also installed
using the installer given in the releases page.), when I returned to
http://java.sun.com/ (or any other page with java applets), mozilla closed and
dumped the following in my xterm:
An irrecoverable stack overflow has occurred.

Unexpected Signal : 11 occurred at PC=0x401e2795
Function name=native_java_library__2os
Library=/home/newguy/mozilla/plugins/java2/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so // newguy

// environment

Good bye.
INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Could not read ack from browser
System error?:: Resource temporarily unavailable
I have read suggestions to people on the 'net to put a symlink from the plugin
object in the java directory to the mozilla/plugins folder, but that symlink is
already in place.
I am on a Debian 3.0 woody 233MHZ PII with 160MB RAM.
(build 2001123121)
no problem when going on this page
Reporter, there shouldn't be the whole Java2/ tree in the plugins/ directory.
Can you install Java2 JRE in a separate directory and then create a softlink in
the plugins/ directory ?
The process is described here:
http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla0.9.7/#java
Severity: major → critical
Keywords: crash
olivier: i do not think that java2 directory tree in plugins dir may
        cause problems by itself. Indeed this seems to be correct situation
        if you want to install java plugin by following the links in the
browser.

reporter: would you please try several tests:
    - what does "about:plugins" say about java?
    - try to open java console before visiting any java related pages,
        does it work?
    - please try ./run-mozilla.sh /usr/bin/ldd -r
/home/newguy/mozilla/plugins/java2/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so
      and ./run-mozilla.sh /usr/bin/ldd -r
/home/newguy/mozilla/plugins/*java*.so
    Please post your results here.
