The zoom popup works well but often I find it sticks around longer than I would like. The page I end up using it on the most is on my bugmail dashboard, where clicking on the link removes a div from the page but otherwise leaves everything intact. After clicking on the link I would like the zoom popup to auto-dismiss so that I look at the new content that has moved in under it, but I end up having to manually dismiss the popup first.

Hi Kats, could you add a screen copy? I'm not sure to understand the behavior of the page (I'm probably not on the correct page or links).

I put up a video at [1] - in it I have the "canned" page at [2] loaded, and I tap on the "X" letter. The zoomed view pops up, and I click on the "X" again. This removes the div from the page, but the zoomed view stays up, obscuring what I want to see (which is the div below it that moves up into the same spot).

I understand that in your specific case you would want an automatic close of the zoomed view. But I can see 2 issues with such behavior:

First, if your click in the zoomed view is not well done on the “X” button. The zoomed view will be closed without any action on the page. So you will have to re-open the zoomed view ...

Second, the automatic close is not always wanted by the user. It depends of the html page content and behavior. And we cannot know if the automatic close is required or not.

To illustrate this second point, you can go to the following page (see also attached pictures):
http://www.worldclass.ro/en/health-academy-cluj/schedule

Step 1: click on the top left menu,
Step 2: the zoomed view is displayed
Step 3: in the zoomed view, click on the menu item “BECOME A MEMBER”, to open the sub-menu. At this point, I don’t want an automatic close of the zoomed view. I want to be able to read and click on of the sub-menu items in the zoomed view.

With your change, the step 3 will close the zoomed view, and I will have to re-open it to be able to read and select the correct item.

I don’t want to force the user in one or another way. I understand that the current behavior is not perfect for your page behavior.

I made a test using a boolean preference to allow your behavior. You can test it using the APK available here:

http://rusez.com/apk/bug1170713/fennec-41.0a1.en-US.android-arm.apk

The preference you have to set to true is: “ui.zoomedview.forceCloseOnClick”

Ok, that's fair. I'm fine with closing this as WONTFIX then.
