1171469 - Invalid email address UI is confusing if email address has trailing space

In the contacts tab, I click "New Contact". I fill in the user's name and their email address. I leave the "Firefox OS Phone" blank as I'm unsure what that means (a phone number? some other identifier?) and I don't think the user has a Firefox OS phone. I click "Add Contact" and the Email address textbox lights up with a red highlight around it because when I copied the email address into the textbox it had a trailing space. 

There should be a better indicator of what's going on, or, since it's known that spaces are not allowed in email addresses, why not trim leading and trailing spaces when the user submits.
