Details
Start with a freshly installed Firefox or clear the app data. * add the search widget to the homescreen * tap the search widget's new tab button Results First run is skipped Expected Shown first run If you swipe close Firefox and restart the first run is not shown.

I think this is expected, similar to how we skip the first run if the first time you launch the browser is through opening an external link.

Indeed! This looks like a WONTFIX for me. Especially since this widget requires user action in order to be added to the Home Screen. I'm not sure that the majority users using this widget to launch Firefox will need the First Run experience.
