Select "General" preference tab.
Then, close and reopen preferences.
Now, switch to "Themes" and the bug should appear.

The pane would scroll up as messages were being added, because convbrowser scrolls to the last added message by default and that apparently sometimes has side effects on the pane position. viewlog.js does something similar to this patch (the log viewer also wants to turn off scrolling to the last message).

Closing bugs related to the Instantbird UI as WONTFIX, as the development of the standalone chat client Instantbird has stopped. Instantbird users are encouraged to migrate to Thunderbird. The user interface of instant messaging in Thunderbird will feel familiar, as the Thunderbird IM support started as a fork of Instantbird.
